Arben Basha

Arben Basha belongs to the group of painters who completed their higher studies in the late 1960s and experimented under the influence of twentieth-century Western European art. While studying painting at the “Jordan Misja” Art High School, Tirana he was a student of the painters Kel Kodheli, Sadik Kaceli, Abdurrahim Buza and Janaq Paço. During his student years (1965 – 1969) Basha studied monumental painting in the Atelier of painters Danish Jukniu, Sali Shijaku, Nexhmedin Zajmi and Vilson Kilica. After his studies, Arben Basha was appointed film painter at the Kinostudio “Shqipëria e Re”, Tirana, where he made over 60 feature films and documentaries (costume designer and film painter). Being part of the film crews while working at Kinostudio, he has painted landscapes from all over Albania. In Basha’s paintings (compositions, portraits, landscapes) is given priority to expressive colours, the play of brushes that creates images between the real and the almost unreal. Basha has created a continuous creativity without many changes, consolidating his pictorial style. Basha, after the 1990s, is mainly a plain-air landscape painter.
